Chief Compliance Officer (Troy, MI)
Ensure that our operations and business transactions follow all
relevant legal and internal rules. Duties encompass all company
operations, but bulk of work will relate to health plan (60%) and
pension plan (30%) administration and other duties (10%). Position
is based in our Troy, Michigan headquarters.
Ensure internal processes comply with Internal Revenue Code,
Medicare, ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and No Surprises Act.
Create sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them.
Define, implement, and continuously optimize benefit processes and
Proactively audit processes, practices, and documents to identify
weaknesses and areas for improvement.
Develop metrics and reports related to compliance.
Identify gaps in processes and serve as lead in developing improved
Document gaps and remediation measures.
Create and communicate policies to manage a crisis or compliance
Evaluate business activities to assess compliance risk.
Assist in vendor procurement and management.
Direct the compliance of tax filings, governmental filings, federal
and multistate regulations to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Ensure that internal processes are in compliance to complete
Serve as a project manager on special filing-related projects.
Perform quality control with respect to required filings and
Conduct training and provide oversight and support to employees
regarding Internal Revenue Code, Medicare, ACA, No Surprises Act
and ERISA requirements.
Document and communicate best practices.
Work with managers to implement new regulations related to required
Serve as expert resource for employees.
Oversee knowledge capture, knowledge transfer and parallel
Assist In-house Counsel and departmental leaders on related
Address employee concerns or questions regarding legal compliance
under direction of In-house Counsel.
Communicate with clients regarding rules and regulations applicable
to benefit administration.
Liaison with outside parties about governmental filings as
Collaborate with external auditors, consultants and counsel when
Compliance Department Support:
Review forms, including provider agreements, policies and
procedures, member facing materials, etc. for compliance
Revise documentation with new or revised laws and regulations
related to required filings.
Maintain health and pension compliance calendar and reporting.
Monitor applicable agencies for new guidance and/or
Maintain general knowledge of benefit plan operations and industry
practices and specific familiarity with company applications and
procedures. Keep abreast of internal standards and business
Ensure company operates in a legal and ethical manner while meeting
Identifying opportunities and supporting efforts to influence a
culture of compliance.
Occasional travel to branch offices may be required.
May be required to supervise Compliance Specialists in the
Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration, Finance, Business
Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
At least seven years of employee benefits and/or claims
administration and compliance experience.
3+ years of project management and process improvement experience
with a strong focus on quality
Strong to expert computer skills - MS Office (Excel, Word,
At least two years of regulatory compliance and oversight
experience in healthcare industry.
Experience with compliance audits and/or risk assessments.
Experience in compiling, coordinating, and analyzing regulatory
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively communicate at all organizational levels,
both orally and in writing.
Ability to present effectively to, and inspire confidence from,
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliverables in a fast-paced
Ability to read documents and communicate professionally and
clearly. Strong language and writing skills are necessary.
Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or
verbal instructions. Analytical and problem-solving skills are
Law degree or legal background helpful but not essential.
Experience with OnBase not essential but welcomed.
