Job Description Job Description Location: Commerce Township, Michigan Title: Journeyman Carpenter Compensation & Benefits: Hourly Pay: $22.00 – $30.00 per hour Benefits: Paid time off Paid holidays Health insurance Opportunity for advancement into Lead Carpenter role Position Summary: The Journeyman Carpenter is a hands-on craftsman responsible for delivering the high-quality workmanship and homeowner experience that define the Basements Plus Way. This role supports the Lead Carpenter across all phases of construction—executing detailed finish tasks, assisting with layout and preparation, maintaining site organization, and ensuring clean, efficient workflow. Precision, consistency, and craftsmanship are essential. Essential Job Functions: Coaching & Team Development Mentor and coach Apprentice Carpenters to improve technical skill, efficiency, and overall performance. Project Execution Deliver high-quality workmanship on schedule with minimal supervision. Support the Lead Carpenter with planning, scheduling, and site preparation. Serve as acting Lead Carpenter when needed to maintain project continuity. Identify and communicate issues, material needs, or potential delays early. Update project management software daily with photos, notes, and issues. Perform all work according to Basements Plus Quality Standards and building codes. Interact with homeowners professionally with a solution-focused mindset. Uphold a zero-punch-list mentality, ensuring a flawless final orientation experience. Technical Mastery Premium Fit & Finish: Tight miters and copes, consistent reveals, precise joinery, and stain-grade craftsmanship. Doors: Pre-hung, pocket, French, slab replacement, and complex hardware installation. Architectural Details: Multi-piece crown, coffered ceilings, wainscoting, beams, mantles, stacked molding, paneled walls, bar fronts, sills, and casing. Built-Ins: Assist in designing and fabricating custom features such as bookcases, hidden doors, cabinets, wood countertops, and bar rails. Stairs & Handrails: Install newels, rails (fixed/removable), skirts, treads, and risers. Cabinet Installation: Install all cabinet types (including Euro-style), fillers, crown, toe kicks, valances, and appliance modification work. Shower Systems: Install wall panel shower systems. Framing: Modify or add structural framing to meet code and design requirements. Position Requirements: 5 years of residential finish carpentry experience. Proficient in framing, trimming, cabinetry, and stair/handrail systems. Strong ability to read plans, interpret scope, and execute work independently. High attention to detail with strong problem-solving abilities. Clear, professional communication with team members and homeowners. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, insurance, and a cell phone. Must provide own carpentry tools. Ability to pass a background check and physical. Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs.
