Role Summary

  • The Controls Engineering Leader is responsible for the overseeing and directing of PLC controls team members and the coordinating of activities related to assembly equipment programming operations while ensuring that safety criteria are met. The Controls Engineering Leader also helps integrate plant wide SCADA systems in relation to real time equipment monitoring and data collection. The Engineering leader helps support the controls department leader while they solidify their support staff during product launches. - - Key Responsibilities
    • Support greenfield facilities when there may not be a controls engineer onboarded yet.
    • Support new program launches to help ensure that the controls structure will be robust and minimize controls related issues.
    • Assist divisions with controls support during launch phases and during times of duress
    • Assist to implement plant wide SCADA and data collection systems, primarily with Ignition software by Inductive Automation. -
    • Assist IT departments with integration of assembly equipment to ERP and MES systems by suggesting hardware and PLC code.
    • Aid in training with controls and maintenance support staff with regards to understanding the way the PLC code runs the equipment.
    • Provide remote assistance where available to ensure timely problem resolutions.
    • Help to coordinate downtime and cycle time improvements.
    • Help direct the controls structure layout for new programs.
    • Aid with low voltage electrical troubleshooting on the equipment and connectivity issues.
    • Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and Cosma rules and regulations.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
    • Establish and maintain effective communications with engineering, quality assurance, production, and control support groups.
    • Provides instruction, guidance, and leadership to employees by assisting in solving day to day problems.
    • Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects Cosma Expectations and Cosma's Visions/Values through Magna's Employee Charter.
    • Perform other duties as designated. Key Qualifications/Requirements
      • Two-year Technical College or equivalent.
      • Minimum 10 years of work related experience.
      • Experience from working at a Machine Integrator in addition to having had a maintenance support role in a Manufacturing Plant would be an asset. -
      • Ability to understand electrical drawings.
      • Vast knowledge of Allen Bradley Ladder Logic, both Standard and Safety.
      • Experience with computer programming languages such as Python and Java are beneficial for SCADA implementations.
      • Certificate of Qualification in a recognized trade, Engineering Degree/Diploma or equivalent work experience. Additional Information WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
        • Office and Manufacturing Environments
        • Able to travel to divisions on a regular basis with some long term assignments
        • Able to work shift work.
        • Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.) SAFETY AND HOUSEKEEPING:
          • Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the O.H.S.A. -
          • Follow and ensure the company's procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
          • Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to Cosma'safety rules and regulations.
          • Active role in maintaining excellent housekeeping through leading by example. -
          • Ensure that your department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
          • As with Safety, Security is everyone's responsibility and Cosma requires its employees to contribute to this activity by immediately notifying your supervisor when you identify security issues that affect the integrity of our supply chain, in accordance with PIP (Partners in Protection) and C-TPAT (Customs - Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements.
