OverviewMagna Corporate R&D in Troy, MI is seeking an
innovative & proven leader as Director, Engineering to be a part of
the engineering team to direct, lead and manage the engineering
projects. Must be a passionate all-rounder capable of developing
innovative solutions by leading and executing small and large
projects in new mobility space. -The ideal candidate must have full
vehicle engineering experience with knowledge in various automotive
domains from concept, prototyping to production launch and will
drive innovation and execution of new mobility projects. Must be
comfortable working with a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be
able to make quick decisions.
-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for the
planning, organization, budget, and completion of innovation
projects.
- Plan and formulate all aspects of Engineering and R&D
projects such as objective or purpose of project, applications that
can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and
human resource requirements.
- Direct and monitor all technical activities in
departments.
- Analyze Engineering results and proposes product changes to
determine feasibility, improvement of component and systems, and
functional and performance specifications
- Identify gaps both technical and organizational and develop
strategies to address them.
- Support Investment and Technology Team in assessing new
technologies.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of Magna's existing products
portfolio and manufacturing processes.
- Maintains awareness of Magna Corporate and group technology
needs, using these to search for technologies of relevance
- Provide coaching and leadership development for the team
including workforce and succession planning, resource allocation,
horizon planning, conflict resolution, and people first leadership.

- Provide technical input into proof-of-concept studies for
various technologies
- Evaluate advanced technologies, products, and processes,
including but not limited to competitive landscape, intellectual
property status, technical feasibility, financial feasibility, and
manufacturability
- Support the development of methodology for advanced strategy
development for future technologies and products based on trend
analysis and business strategy
- Technical prowess to identify emerging technologies of
potential relevance to Magna both within and outside the automotive
sector
- Serve as the Technical Lead in identifying concepts,
principles, and processes for the assigned area of responsibility
(i.e., subject matter, function, type of facility or equipment, or
product) -
- Provide OEM perspective and input for R&D strategy and
technology roadmaps
- Maintain relationships with Magna operating groups through the
Core Product Manager structure
- Identify opportunities to increase performance, reduce cost and
improve quality for Magna's existing products, systems, and
procedures through innovation
- Capable to demonstrate sustained innovation and creativity
leading to significant project accomplishments without direct
technical supervision. Supervision provided as required on
assignments as well as on broader general objectives and
limits
- Develop strategic relationships with key technical
representatives at the OEMs
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reviewing
professional publications and establishing personal networks
- Use related computer software and equipment to perform
technical analysis tasks
-Qualifications
- Minimum 15+ years product development experience at an OEM or
major tier one supplier.
- Must have 10+ years' experience managing a team of direct
reports.
- Must have full vehicle engineering experience including
requirements development, architecture selection and product
release. -
-Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering or a "Hard" Science
field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or Chemistry) with
exceptional qualifications and experience in research or
development.
- Global automotive experience in a major OEM or Tier 1.
- Full familiarity and experience in automotive product
development and advanced processes

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to finger,
handle, and feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and
arms and have adequate mobility to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel,
crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move
up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this
job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Responsible for working in compliance with the provisions of
the Health and Safety Act as well as any rules or standards
otherwise specified by OSHA or MIOSHA or any other government
regulations. Expected to exercise caution in all work activities
and report any unsafe conditions, injuries, or near misses to the
appropriate supervisor.
- Domestic and international travel will be required up to 10% of
