Overview ----Coordinate the services of materials engineering to support corporate needs for commercial vehicle systems.---Direct and conduct materials characterizations and R&D, for all non-metallic commercial vehicle components.---Active involvement with engineering teams and manufacturing sites globally. Job Responsibilities ----Manage and direct activities of the Chemistry section of Materials Engineering support staff.---Provide support for the project needs of Cummins-Meritor engineering divisions.---Maintain Material & Process Specifications.---Provide performance objectives and reviews of all direct reports.---Administer necessary discipline by recognizing problems, seeking counsel if necessary and initiating action for resolution.---Assist in the selection and materials support activities of Cummins-Meritor Engineering, facilities, and vendors.---Provide support to engineering and procurement on regulatory and quality inquiries.---Initiates and maintains liaison with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement personnel.---Proactive in providing solutions and drive results.---Provide organic material testing support for the design, manufacturing, and procurement staff of Cummins-Meritor.---Perform materials characterization for the purpose of failure resolution and competitive analysis and product application and improvement.---Participate in Specification Committee activities.---Participate in industry events for commercial vehicles. (LRI, STLE, ASTM, SAE)---Expand expertise in Materials Engineering and Manufacturing Operations.---Strong technical writing skills - must be able to filter and coach on technical position papers and reports---Operates well in a fast paced environment---Strong knowledge in materials and service/application environment compatibility---Must communicate well cross functionally---Experience dealing directly with suppliers---Knowledge of the PPAP and quality control processes and tools---Keep abreast of new developments in lubricants, polymeric and organic materials.---Responsible for equipment acquisitions---Assists in environmental compliance issues
