Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn

has been advancing care for the greater Dearborn, Michigan region
since 1953. Beaumont, Dearborn is verified as a Level II trauma
center and has been recognized for clinical excellence and
innovation in the fields of orthopedics, neurosciences (Stroke
Center of Excellence), women's health, heart and vascular, and
cancer care. Clinical staff here have the opportunity to
participate in training for residents from Wayne State's University
School of Medicine.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Nurse Supervisor coordinates and organizes personnel and other
resources to meet the patient care functions of the organization,
in a cost-effective manner. Collaborates to provide crisis
management, interpret policy and procedure, and assure timely and
effective communication and collaboration between individuals and
departments. The Nurse Supervisor represents the organizational
leadership across all venues on 24-hour basis and collaborates to
make decisions an act on behalf of the leadership team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Ensures the continuous and timely availability of urgent care,
emergency, inpatient, and operative services to patients and
families.
2. Continuously monitors daily operations by integrating data from
electronic systems, personal communication, and physical unit
rounds to assure patient care effectiveness, efficiency and
satisfaction.
3. Ensures the safety and quality of patient care by allocating and
redirecting resources, considering care demands related to acuity,
patient and unit requirements and staff skill mix.
4. Coordinates the routine flow of scheduled, direct, and emergency
patient admissions to efficiently place patients in the appropriate
care location, maximize capacity, improve satisfaction of patients,
families and referring providers.
5. Coordinates the organizational response during times of high
census: collaborating with administrators and nursing directors,
the Emergency Department, Surgery Department, Critical Care, Cath
Lab and Inpatient Nursing Units.
6. Promotes communication at all levels.
7. Collaborates with care management, the medical staff, and the
interdisciplinary team to promote smooth, timely, and efficient
patient throughput.
8. Upholds professional standards of care by demonstrating
leadership skills and a high level of clinical competency while
striving to achieve the system Mission and Vision.

precautions - reports and prevents/corrects unsafe conditions and
behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental
safety programs.
7. Completes all required compliance standards that may be
department specific and/or identified by the organization.
8. Maintains current licensure, registration and/or certification,
as applicable, at all times.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

A. Education / Training:
Bachelor's degree in nursing required, master's degree preferred.
Completion of a Nurse Executive Council approved leadership
development educational program within 1 year of position
entry.
B. Work Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
Minimum of one year of formal nursing leadership experience
required for external applicants
Minimum of 1 years demonstrated informal leadership experience
required for internal applicants, may include but are not limited
to: Charge Lead Nurse, Charge Nurse responsibilities, leadership on
behalf of unit/site/system at Shared Governance Council, etc.
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
RN License in State of Michigan required.
D. Other Qualifications:
Problem solving, excellent interpersonal and communication
skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
A. Physical Effort:
Strength
o Position requires ability to frequently push/pull up to 30 lb.
objects with assist of others, occasional requires ability to lift
objects more than 50 lbs. with others, constantly lift objects up
to 20 lbs. And frequently lift up to 40 lbs.
Manual Dexterity
o Position requires incumbent to constantly perform simple motor
skills such as standing, walking and simple manipulative skills
such as writing. Position requires incumbent to frequently perform
moderately difficult manipulative skills such as positioning
patients.
Coordination
o Position requires incumbent to constantly perform gross body
coordination such as walking. Frequently perform tasks which
require hand-eye coordination such as assisting patients to eat,
collections of specimens for transport to lab and tasks which
require arm-hand steadiness such as taking patients temps and
pulses.
Mobility
o Positions requires incumbent to constantly walk and stand;
occasionally sit for prolonged periods, frequently bend such as
when caring for a patient in bed.
Visual Discrimination
o Positions requires incumbent to constantly see objects far away
as in driving and see close objects such as reading
thermometers.
Hearing
o Positions requires incumbent to constantly be able to hear normal
sound with some background noise as in answering phone/intercom.
Occasionally be able to distinguish sound as in equipment
alarms.
B. Work Environment:
Employee may be:
frequently exposed to electro-magnetic radiations as in VDTs
occasionally exposed to hazardous material other than blood, body
tissues, or fluids, dust, toxins, cytotoxins, chemical hazardous
materials, bodily injuries, loud and/or unpleasant noises, high
