In total, Beaumont has eight hospitals and 155 outpatient sites that provide diverse practice settings located in communities throughout southeastern Michigan and the greater Detroit metropolitan area.# # GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general direction, performs routine and occasionally more complex technical procedures and support functions in preparation of specimens for microscopic evaluation and reagents for the Histology Department. Organizes, prepares and accessions specimens for processing. Performs diener functions as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Supports laboratory activities related to laboratory testing (such as specimen labeling, computer order entry, specimen processing, etc.) to ensure accurate result reporting and quick turnaround time. 2. Supports clerical functions (computer order entry, accessioning, etc) of the laboratory to ensure efficient operations. 3. Performs quality frozen sections according to established procedure, including properly stained, thin full sections in a timely manner. 4. Files blocks and slides in organized fashion to allow for quick retrieval. Performs functions related to off-site storage and retrieval of blocks and slides. 5. Changes reagents on, maintains and loads the tissue processors to allow for quality and timely tissue processing. Perform the reagent recycling duties in a timely and safe manner. 6. Assist with tissue disposal tasks as required. Assist with deiner duties related to autopsies as required. 7. Documents and completes all required logs, requisitions, charts, reports and special projects as assigned. 8. Contributes to the efficient operations of the laboratory. 9. Participates in professional development to maintain job performance skills and competencies. Maintains skill levels required for the department. 10. Demonstrates adherence to Compliance policies as related to job duties. Work Experience: # Minimum 6 months laboratory experience or completion of an accredited clinical laboratory science training program. # C. Certification, Licensure, Registration: # None # D. Other Qualifications: # Problem solving ability, mathematical skills, able to coordinate technical and support operations computer knowledge, good communication skills, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. # # WORKING CONDITIONS: A. Physical Effort: # Strength: Position requires incumbent to occasionally perform physical activities requiring ability to push/pull objects of up to 40 pounds, constantly lift objects up 10 pounds; occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds. # Manual Dexterity: Positions require incumbent to constantly perform simple motor skills such as walking, standing, constantly perform difficult manipulative skills such as repetitive arm use, and constantly perform difficult manipulative skills such as preparation of specimens for analysis. # Coordination: Position requires incumbent to constantly perform gross body coordination such as walking and standing. Constantly performing tasks, which require eye-hand coordination such as cutting specimens, and frequently performing tasks, which require arm-hand steadiness such as diener functions. # Mobility: Position requires incumbent to constantly perform mobility skills such as walking and standing, sitting or standing for prolonged periods; and remain in uncomfortable positions for prolonged periods such as bending over specimens. Frequently perform stooping along with performing manual dexterity and coordination functions. # Visual Discrimination: Position requires incumbent to constantly see objects far away as in locating exits, see objects closely. # Hearing: Position requires incumbent to constantly hear normal sounds such as equipment operating and being able to hear pages, telephone conversations, etc. Distinguish sound as in responding to timers and/or audible alarms. # Concentration: Position requires incumbent to constantly be able to concentrate on fine details with constant amount of interruptions. # Attention Span: Position requires incumbent to attend to task/functions constantly for periods up to 60 minutes in length and to frequently attend to task/functions for periods exceeding 60 minutes in length. # Conceptualization: Position requires incumbent to constantly understand and relate to specific ideas, concepts, and theories. # Memory: Position requires incumbent to constantly remember tasks and/or assignment given to self and others over both short and long periods of time such as schedule of work, job assignments, etc. # B.
