SUMMARY

Responsible for aspects of local and state compliance processes and procedures as it relates to resident nutrition, scheduling, point of sale, menus and compliance binders within multiple Cedarbrook properties. Is proficient and instructs managers how to use software programs to ensure the correct menus are printed and available for residents based on diet restrictions. Educates residents and/or senior living team members in principles of nutrition and modifications for normal diet. Performs routine skilled nursing assessments and follow up responsibilities without training or direction. Is responsible for the accuracy of all menus and food being served to residents. Assures a high standard of team member handbook policies, procedures and training. Provides excellent customer service and hospitality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess the nutritional needs of residents within Skilled Nursing by obtaining, verifying and interpreting data needed to identify nutrition related problems, their causes and significance.
  • Determine the nutrition diagnosis to identify and describe a specific nutrition problem (Intake, Clinical or Behavioral-Environmental) that can be resolved or improved through treatment/nutrition intervention by the registered dietitian. Implement nutrition interventions to resolve or improve the identified nutrition problem. Nutrition therapy recommendations are based on individualized, specific resident care needs; including food and or nutrient delivery (meals, snacks, supplements, enteral or parenteral), nutrition education, nutrition counseling, and coordination of care.
  • Leads nutritional operations, is self-motivated and organized to complete nutritional assessments and care plans for residents within nursing home and as ordered by a physician within assisted living and memory care.
  • Accurately documents and communicates nutritional assessments and changes in special meals.

  • Leads by example with the use of properly changing gloves and wearing slip resistant shoes to support safe work habits. Creates a safe working environment for which all team members are following safe work habits including the use of all safety equipment provided.
  • Promotes better nutrition by speaking to resident groups about diet, nutrition, and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases.
  • Keeps up with the latest nutritional science research and communicates it to the Food and Nutrition team.
  • May prepare, present and attend food and nutrition team member, resident and management meetings. Will provide a positive representation of the department.
  • May present changes in dietetics in the form of a training at the community level and will follow up on regulation and policy changes to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensures the diet manual has been reviewed and signed off per the local and state regulations.
  • Is present and available by phone during survey to answer questions, assist the Food and Nutrition Department with responding to surveyor requests.
  • May assist with the customer service of a resident and/or resident family as needed
  • Perform other duties as directed within the timeline requested.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides training on special diets as needed and follow up to maintain a professional work force.
  • Ensure all services to residents are conducted in a highly professional and efficient manner.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and attitude on the part of all team members in areas of responsibility.
  • May assist with interviewing, selecting and training.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD), Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Dietetics from an accredited college or university, Master's degree preferred
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred
  • Minimum of one-year experience
  • Senior living or healthcare experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Registered Dietitian Required
  • ServSafe Manager Certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • ServSafe Michigan Allergen Certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) optional.
  • Certified Food Protection Professional (CFPP) optional.
  • Driver's License required.
