Role Summary The Systems Engineer designs, develops and improves new and existing electromechanical systems with embedded system controls for automotive applications. Generally completes the following duties and responsibilities with the support of senior engineering personnel and/or engineering management. --This position may be located in Newmarket, Ontario or Troy, Michigan.-- Key Responsibilities

  • Generally assigned to develop & improve existing and new automotive electromechanical systems--
  • Captures customer requirements, regulations and product specifications into the design of the assigned products/systems--
  • Define and execute the Statement of Work / Statement of Requirement for the system
  • Define, cascade and oversee execution of Statement of Work/ Statement of Requirements for sub-systems and system components
  • Generate black box and grey box functional strategies for mechatronic systems definitions, up to vehicle level--
  • Ensures customer requirements, regulations and product specifications are executed in the system design of the assigned products. --Works with interdisciplinary engineering teams to ensure compliance with Mechatronics System Development Process plus operational, cost, timing, safety, reliability, quality, and manufacturing feasibility parameters
  • Consults and collaborates with personnel in various engineering and design activities relative to product development requirements in order to create/support robust electro-mechanical systems control methods to eliminate campaign failure modes
  • Writes/compiles engineering content for the following deliverables: product specifications (STS, SSTS), component specifications (CTS), RASIC matrix, mechanization drawings and ICD, System Bill of Materials, System DFMEA, compliance matrix, system DVP&R---s, 8D---s, prototype control plans, key product characteristics, engineering changes and work orders
  • Participate in creation and analysis of system models
  • Manage projects in Polarion, ensuring completion of delegated work packages
  • Complete ISO 26262 work packages as required
  • Support customer system level discussions
  • Conduct engineering testing of electromechanical from mockup proof of concept to customer validation testing
  • Uses system analysis tools (LabView, programmers, oscilloscopes, meters, analyzers, etc.) to evaluate system performance and troubleshoot system function when issues arise
  • Review, approve, completes, and submits required change notices to ensure system meets design inputs
  • Participate in code reviews / component design with peers and customer to ensure system requirements are fulfilled
  • Able to develop new / optimize existing project documentations to add value and improve efficiency of communication
  • Supports system analysis activities. Fundamental understanding and ability to apply/utilize basic mathematical models for mechatronic systems and software simulation such as MatLab, Simulink and software development environments for embedded applications
  • Independently prioritizes the completion of tasks and resolution of issues to ensure compliance to Customer requirements and program deliverables. Contributes to the development of project timing
  • Conducts effective communications within the project team (interdisciplinary communication) and with the customer, suppliers, manufacturing and quality communities with minimal guidance from engineering management and engineering personnel
  • Works with senior engineering personnel to support and drive best practices in design specifications, manufacturing processes, customer requirements, and safety requirements
  • Understanding of executing internal change management, and adapting to customer change management systems, to ensure accuracy and proper protocol when processing engineering change requests
  • Analyzes products and formulates engineering conclusions by the application of engineering and/or mathematical principles and tools. --Applies QFD, FEA, FMEA, DOE, VA/VE and DFM/DFA, as required in the development of the product
  • Support Global System team as required-- Key Qualifications/Requirements
    • Bachelor---s degree in Mechatronics/Electrical/Engineering Physics/Computer Engineering/Control Systems from an accredited University or Bachelor---s degree in Mechanical Engineering with more than 5 years--- experience with systems or embedded software product applications
    • 5-10 years of engineering experience
    • Demonstrated ability to apply system methodologies to design and be able to develop cascading requirement scenarios required
    • Demonstrated excellence in communication / presenting / influencing / salespersonship skills required
    • Completion of SCFI Mechatronics 1 and Mechatronics 2 courses preferred--
    • Completion of ISO 26262 and ASPICE courses preferred.
    • Possess working knowledge of EDA tools, electronic circuit board design and manufacturing. --Familiarity with fabrication and test of electronic products.
    • Possess detailed documentation practices.
    • Vehicle level bus communication protocol development experience (i.e. CAN, LIN)
    • System/Subsystem architecture development experience for safety critical components
    • Working knowledge of electrical hardware (including wire harness), software and electrical circuit theory as it relates to embedded controls for electro-mechanical systems.--
    • Automotive production launch experience with an embedded SW product required
    • Working knowledge of C/C+, Assembly language, Arduino code, Matlab, Simulink, Labview, Lab windows or other software design/test tools
    • Understanding of standard software processes and industry requirements IEEE, CMMI, MISRA, AUTOSAR, USCAR-- Additional Information
